There are a few opportunities, when asked by British Railway Modelling magazine,
To go and photograph model railways. One such model was the wonderful "Eaton Gomery" layout. Owner and builder, Peter Thomas, had this to say about my photographs which were published along with his article in the above magazine December 2006 and January 2007 editions "I would wish to thank Ray Lightfoot for travelling the length of the country to photograph Eaton Gomery. His photographs made me look at the layout in a different way. In magazines and particularly at exhibitions one is accustomed to seeing layouts from above, the birds eye view. In reality we rarely see things from this viewpoint and that in itself gives the models a look of artificiality. Many of Ray's photos are from track level, some from head on; all pick out little details and views that at an exhibition would be overlooked. Perhaps the purpose of a magazine article and its accompanying photographs is to give an insight that cannot be seen in an exhibition hall, to show the other reality that is so easily missed in the bustle of an exhibition."
